The bitey-bugs are out!

Lately I’ve taken to going outside when the day is declining towards evening with my laptop and a lawn chair. I generally like to write while I’m sitting in the half shade of my backyard, usually with a couple of cats at my feet, though sometimes I just end up playing some computer game or other or really anything that can distract me from my original plans. With the weather as nice as it has been lately (I mean of course in the evening, anytime before that it’s too hot) this seems like a pretty perfect idea. But there is a slight shadow being cast on this epic breakthrough of mine, and it comes in the form of mosquitoes. (I spelt it right the first time, yay!)
Not only are mosquitoes very fond of me, but I am very much allergic to them. A small bite quickly becomes the size of a quarter. A little hole surrounded by trees and bushes and plenty of things lying around to collect standing water is the ideal habitat for the bloodsucking little insects, and it just so happens my house is in such a place. When the ‘bitey-bugs’ come out everyone flees indoors to get away from the mosquitoes who would like very much to make a meal of you.
Despite the mosquitoes I usually sit out in the backyard with my laptop in no other place than my lap, typing away or just enjoying the sunshine, and when I come inside I will usually have several large bug bites. Today I sat on the porch for the equivalent of seven minutes (or less, that is a rough estimate, I wasn’t timing myself or anything) and I managed to get two bug bites, one on my elbow and one on no other place than my thumb (how on earth did I NOT feel that?). So I too went running inside, to my computer to write a lengthy blog complaining about my ill fate! Oh how powerful I feel with a keyboard beneath my fingers!
So today I have been vanquished, but I will return again, and next time I will have a little thing called mosquito repellent! Yes, I have been reduced to chemical filled sprays that when inhaled could likely kill me, but I will be safe in my little cocoon of anti bugness spray. And even though it smells weird and will likely repel pests of the human variety as well (I love you my family!) I will be able to rest assured that no bug with the intent of sucking my blood will come near me! They’ll have no idea what’s hit them!

I particularly like the evil villain laughter at the end. Oh, and it’s wonderful to see you in your own little corner of cyberspace (apart from myspace, facebook, and apricotpie of course). :) I suppose I will have to forgive you for going to wordpress from blogspot… I’ll get used to it… :)
